CAN YOUR BUILDING’S ACCESS CARD GET CLONED?

Many Access Control Systems still use proximity cards. In recent years, security researchers have shown how simple it is to read and clone these cards.

Wearing or holding the right portable system, an attacker looking to gain access would only need to get within 1-3 feet of a person’s proximity card. This would allow the system to remotely copy the person’s access card. The attacker could then create a fake duplicate access card that would give them access to the person’s building.

That’s the bad news. The good news is that security companies have moved quickly to mitigate the vulnerabilities of proximity cards and card readers. Contact us if you would like to hear about solutions to mitigate risks attached to proximity technologies.
